Role Description
The Freelance Photographer is responsible for producing high-quality images that support the magazine’s editorial and lifestyle content. This full-time, on-site role in Riverside, CA involves planning and executing photo shoots, including location scouting, coordinating with editors and writers, and photographing events, portraits, food, and local businesses. The photographer will edit and retouch images, prepare files for print and digital use, and ensure consistency with the magazine’s visual style and brand guidelines. The role also includes meeting deadlines, maintaining organized archives, and collaborating with the editorial team to develop visual story concepts that reflect the Inland Empire community.

Qualifications

Demonstrated proficiency in digital photography, including composition, lighting, and exposure for lifestyle and editorial work.

Experience with photo editing and retouching using industry-standard software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom).

Strong portfolio showcasing on-location photography, events, portraits, and feature stories for print or digital publications.

Ability to collaborate with editors, writers, and art directors, and take creative direction while contributing visual ideas.

Excellent time management skills, with the capacity to handle multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and work on-site in Riverside, CA.

Reliable access to professional camera equipment and related gear suitable for magazine-quality imagery.

Knowledge of basic color management, print resolution standards, and file delivery formats for both print and web.

Valid driver’s license and ability to travel within the Inland Empire region for on-site shoots and events.

Previous experience working with magazines, newspapers, or media outlets is preferred.
