Account Manager, Freight Brokerage

Five Star Trucking · Willoughby, OH, USA ·

Job type:
Full Time

Description
Own the relationships. Grow the accounts. Get paid for results.

Five Star Trucking is a family-run freight brokerage and carrier that has moved truckload freight for manufacturers, distributors, and grocery customers for nearly five decades. We're growing, and we're looking for an Account Manager who wants to own a portfolio of shipper accounts and be rewarded for growing them.

What you'll do

Be the go-to for a portfolio of shipper clients, from quote to final delivery

Grow each account by winning more freight using our pricing tools and identifying new lanes, opportunities and volume for additional growth. An opportunity to score multiple wins every day

Lead business reviews with your customers and understand trends in load count, revenue, and margin

Onboard new customers won by our Sales team and turn them into long-term accounts

Coordinating the shipment lifecycle alongside Track and Trace and Carrier Sales to ensure keep service levels high

What a typical day looks like

Start the day in a quick huddle with Track and Trace and Carrier Sales, where you identify, discuss, and solve (IDS) anything that could impact your accounts and their shipments

Work incoming tenders and quote requests, whether they arrive by email, customer portal, or EDI. Every account works a little differently, and you'll know each one's process

Keep tabs on open loads and get ahead of service issues before your customer has to call

Make proactive outreach calls to find new freight and lanes within your accounts

Update the TMS, prep for upcoming business reviews, and plan tomorrow's priorities

What success looks like
30 days: Learn the book

You know your assigned accounts, their key contacts, their lanes, and how each one sends freight (email, portal, or EDI)

You've introduced yourself to the key contacts at each assigned account by phone or video call

You're comfortable in our TMS and pricing tools

You're a regular in the daily huddle and handle quotes and tenders with support from the team

60 days: Take the wheel

You handle daily quotes and tenders on your own for most of your accounts

You've started proactive outreach to find new freight within your accounts

You keep your TMS records accurate and current without reminders

You've landed your first win within an existing account, such as a new lane, facility, or extra volume

90 days: Own the portfolio

You're bringing issues to the huddle and working them through with Track and Trace and Carrier Sales

You fully own your book of accounts, from quote to delivery

You've helped onboard a new customer brought in by our Sales team

6 months: Grow the business

Your accounts are showing growth in loads and gross margin

You've identified new lane opportunities and are working with Carrier Sales on a capacity plan to win them

You've prepared or led your first business review

You're flagging at-risk accounts early, such as dropping volume or margin pressure, before they become problems

1 year: Be the trusted partner

Every account in your portfolio has had its annual business review, with clear action plans

Your accounts show year-over-year growth in load count and gross margin

Your customers see you as their go-to logistics partner, and you own your numbers on the team scorecard

You've set growth goals (Rocks) for each of your key accounts for the year ahead

Your book has held its accounts, with none lost to service issues

What you get

Competitive base salary plus uncapped incentive compensation tied to your accounts' performance

Comprehensive benefits package (Medical, Dental, Vision, Employer Paid STD, Paid Family Leave)

401(k) with company match

Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
