Freelance Illustrator

Smartdept. is searching for a Freelance Illustrator for a higher education client. This is a freelance, project-based, remote opportunity starting late November to mid December 2026, with ongoing work as needed.
Our client is relaunching its printed magazine and is looking for an illustrator who loves detail. The magazine will feature illustrated pieces like a game board style spread and infographics, so they need someone who can make complex information fun and easy to follow. This is a long term relationship for the right creative partner.
What You'll Do:
Create detailed, intricate illustrations for magazine spreads
Design a game board style illustration and illustrated infographics
Turn information about the college into clear, engaging visuals
Deliver final art ready for print
What You'll Need:
Education/Experience:

A portfolio showing detailed, intricate illustration work
Experience with infographics, illustrated maps, or similar information driven art
Experience creating illustrations for print

Ability to take feedback and refine work through rounds of review
Open communicator who raises concerns early and delivers on time
Nice-to-Have Skills:
Editorial or publication illustration experience
Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
Hand drawn and digital illustration range
