Job Type: Part-time / Freelance Contract (3–4 months)
Hours: 15–20 hours per week
Compensation: Up to $65.00 / hour + 10-15 percent commission on sales and bookings
About the Brand & My Background
I am an author, educator, and speaker with a highly eclectic portfolio that bridges academic biblical scholarship, humor, literary analysis, and public lecturing. My published works—spanning provocative and analytical biblical literature, liturgy, and autobiography (including Why Abraham Murdered Isaac, The God Who was Afraid and So Compassionate it Hurts: My Life as a Rabbi on the Spectrum)—reach a thoughtful, engaged audience.
I bring a uniquely multi-faceted skill set to my readers and audiences. Beyond writing, my background includes:
- Academia & Teaching: I hold two Ph.D.s and possess an extensive background in university-level teaching, bringing deep academic rigor to my public speaking, cohort-based courses, and educational content.
- Multilingualism: I am fluently multilingual allowing for cross-cultural communication, dynamic linguistic analysis, and a broader audience reach.
- Martial Arts: I hold a 3rd-degree black belt in martial arts, bringing a philosophy of intense discipline and focus to my teaching and speaking engagements.
Role Overview
This engagement is intended to generate real market opportunities and direct financial returns, not simply produce a marketing strategy or new promotional materials. I am looking for a highly strategic, results-driven professional to help me monetize this unique intersection of skills. The primary goal is to drive concrete revenue through premium paid speaking engagements, book sales, and high-ticket cohort-based classes or courses.
What Success Looks Like in the First 90 Days
During the first 90 days, you will work with me to establish final financial targets based on the opportunities identified during the initial market review. Operating at 15–20 hours a week provides ample time for consistent, strategic outreach. At a minimum, the engagement should aim to achieve:
- Financial ROI: By the end of Month 3, the revenue generated (or contracted) from your direct efforts—via speaking fees, bulk book sales, or course enrollments—should demonstrate a clear trajectory toward offsetting the cost of this engagement and delivering a positive return on investment.
- Pipeline Development: Identify and prioritize a robust pipeline of 75–100 high-value, qualified opportunities across paid speaking, scholar-in-residence programs, cohort-based teaching engagements, and strategic partnerships.
- Proactive Outreach: Conduct personalized, high-quality outbound pitching to 20–30 qualified prospects per week once the initial target list is built, utilizing a professional and consistent follow-up sequence.
- Lead Generation: Generate 15–20 substantive conversations or highly qualified leads with event organizers, academic institutions, and prospective buyers during the 90-day engagement.
- Secured Bookings: Secure 3–5 premium paid engagements (keynotes, workshops, scholar-in-residence weekends, or paid cohort partnerships), recognizing that some execution dates may extend beyond the initial 90-day period.
- Audience Monetization: Implement campaigns to actively convert my existing online audience and website traffic into direct book sales and paid subscribers.
- Systematized Sales: Establish a transparent, repeatable CRM/tracking system that allows me to view real-time metrics on outreach activity, response rates, active proposals, and secured opportunities.
Qualifications & Skills
- Proven track record of driving direct revenue for authors, academics, thought leaders, or literary figures through bookings and sales.
- Brand Synthesis: Demonstrated ability to market a client with a highly diverse, eclectic skill set (e.g., blending academic scholarship with humor, linguistics, and martial arts).
- Niche Expertise (A Strong Plus): Familiarity with Jewish themes, audiences, and institutions (such as community centers, academic networks, or synagogues), given the focus of my scholarship and the potential for related speaking engagements.
- Exceptional outbound sales and pitching skills, with an ability to close high-value opportunities and manage a professional follow-up pipeline.
- Self-starter mentality; capable of working independently, taking ownership of revenue targets, and adjusting strategy based on market feedback.
Contract Details & Logistics
- Duration: 3 to 4 months (approx. 90 days), with the explicit possibility of a long-term extension if positive ROI targets are met.
- Time Commitment: 15 to 20 hours per week. Flexible working hours, provided we have a consistent weekly check-in.
- Rate: Up to $65/hour + commission depending on experience and proven track record of generating revenue.
Screening Questions (Required to Apply)
Please answer the following questions to be considered for this role:
- Tell me about an author, speaker, academic, consultant, or thought leader you have helped grow. What did they already have when you began, what were you responsible for, and what happened as a result? (Please include specific financial or business outcomes where possible).
- Give me an example of a paid opportunity you helped generate for a client. (This could include a speaking engagement, workshop, partnership, media appearance that generated business, bulk book sale, or another relevant outcome. Walk me through how you identified the opportunity, who you contacted, what outreach you conducted, and what resulted).
- Imagine you started this engagement tomorrow. I have several published books, previous paid speaking experience, an existing online audience, and teaching expertise, but no consistent marketing or business-development system. What would you do during your first 30 days to ensure we are building momentum toward revenue? (Please be specific. I am less interested in a polished marketing plan than in how you would determine where the strongest opportunities are and begin securing them).
- How comfortable are you personally conducting outbound business development? (Please describe what you have personally done, including prospect research, identifying decision-makers, email or LinkedIn outreach, pitching, follow-up, relationship development, and pipeline management).
- How would you determine which of several possible revenue opportunities should receive attention first? (For example, if you saw potential in paid speaking, book sales, cohort-based educational programs, and new products, how would you decide what to pursue rather than attempting to market everything simultaneously?)
- What parts of this role would you NOT consider yourself strong at? (Please be candid. I would rather understand your actual strengths than hire someone who claims to do everything).
- Please share one or two relevant work samples or case studies. (Whenever possible, include examples that demonstrate business development, outbound outreach, or measurable revenue generation rather than social media content alone).
