Reports To: Senior Director, External Communications and Media Relations
Work Schedule: Full-Time
The Media Communications Manager will be responsible for supporting the external communication needs of the ACGME, including serving as the day to day resource for media monitoring and tracking, social media management and communications support.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Daily monitoring of social media platforms (Twitter and LinkedIn) as well as traditional digital media for ACGME mentions and mentions of ACGME-accredited programs.
Alerts Senior Director quickly to possible risk management situations including public events, crises, and conflicts; initiates internal risk assessment process.
Generates regular briefings for key internal stakeholders.
Conducts research on media outlets, reporters, and social media influencers to stay abreast of medical education and academic medicine news environment.
Manages the day-to-day upkeep of the media relations database (Cision) and social media tool (Hootsuite).
Develops weekly content for the ACGME’s social media accounts (Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube and future platforms) with assistance from other Communications staff members and schedules posts via Hootsuite.
Researches key influencers to follow/connect with, hashtags to use, days to recognize, topics to engage in, etc.
Works with Editorial and Graphics Coordinator to manage and update visuals for use on social media.
Alongside the Senior Director, develops needs assessment and creates strategy for enhancing engagement, including expansion into other platforms and use of additional tools and resources, such as Twitter chats.
- Creates tools to help ACGME stakeholders use social media and engages with other departments and leaders to optimize use of social channels.
Works with Senior Director, and Manager, Marketing Communications on process for tracking and reporting metrics related to issues management, public relations hits, marketing campaigns, and social media.
Assists the internal/external communications team in creating and organizing media messaging, video scripts, newsletter articles, website content, and other communications materials as needed.
Assists with management of videographers, agencies, and other vendors as needed.
Coordinates Newsroom and web page updates and enhancements, ensures that new and consistent information (media coverage, stories, and events) is posted regularly (works with Editorial Services team and Webmaster).
Manages editorial meeting process and contributes to brainstorming around use of ACGME channels to communicate to target audiences.
Assists in creating toolkits, guidelines, and other operational documents for the Communications team.
Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
This is a great position for a new manager or senior level specialist looking to use and build a broad range of social media and communication skills.
- A minimum of 6-8 years of progressive responsibility in communications, social media management, public relations and/or related roles.
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism or a related field is preferred.
- Experience in health care, accreditation, and/or non-profit highly desirable.
Superior written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated proficiency across a wide variety of audiences and constituencies.
Technical expertise, specifically with social media platforms, including Twitter, LinkedIn, and Hootsuite (or a similar platform), as well as experience using and customizing a media monitoring and tracking platform, such as Cision.
Experience and interest in staying on top of current social media trends and bringing innovative ideas to the team.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Strong analytical skills.
The ability to multi-task and prioritize.
Non-profit experience, with a strong understanding of how communications intersects with achieving the mission of the organization.
Demonstrated facilitation and interpersonal skills, allowing for effective project management within a matrix environment.
Basic graphic editing experience a plus.
Position requires the significant use of standard office equipment, such as a computer, keyboard, mouse, photo copier, fax machine, telephone, etc.
Most of the work of the Media Communications Manager is done in the ACGME office or remotely with the typical physical demands of an office environment. During the COVID-19 pandemic, ACGME employees are working remotely until further notice. The position requires travel outside of the Chicago area approximately 1-2 times per year for conferences.
