Chief Photographer (in WC) leads, guides and supports the Photographers, Editors and Truck Operators and the newsgathering efforts of the team to ensure the highest journalistic and technical standards.


  • Write and conduct annual appraisals for WC/Hudson Valley Staff.
  • Assist with recruiting and hiring and training staff.
  • Manage the schedules of photographers/editors to meet coverage needs, including to reduce overtime and temp usage.
  • Lead with and instill a positive attitude, good temperament and collaborative spirit.
  • Assist with establishing standard operating procedures (SOP) to ensure a smooth newsgathering process. Oversee the maintenance and organization of all electronic newsgathering equipment including cameras, lights, accessories, backpacks , TOC and editing gear and news vehicles.  This includes vehicle maintenance and registrations.  Work with Engineers as needed.
  • Troubleshoot and find solutions for technical, equipment and operational problems.
  • Assist with planning of news coverage and special events in coordination with managers.
  • Shoot and edit content across all platforms (including but not limited to News 12, News, News 12+).
  • Drive news vehicles and operate production equipment.
  • Respond to breaking news and other urgent newsroom situations as required.
  • Facilitate submission of award entries in regional and national competitions.
  • Comply with Altice values, policies and procedures.


Eight years of experience in television news gathering and/or production preferred

  • Outstanding photojournalism skills.
  • Commitment to journalistic standards of ethics and accuracy.
  • Knowledge of applicable laws related to newsgathering.
  • Valid drivers license with a good driving record.
  • Proficiency in news production equipment and computers.
  • Flexibility to work any assigned shift.
  • Carry and lift gear of approximately 50 pounds for extended periods of time.
