ASME is a world-renowned, member-based professional organization focused on serving the technical, educational, and other programmatic needs of the engineering and technology communities on a worldwide basis. We are currently seeking to fill the Director, Technical and Engineering Communities (TEC) Product Management position based out of our Houston, TX office.

The TEC Sector within ASME offers conferences and events and supports Journals through the content created by ASME members, non-members and other contributors. Working directly with Technical Divisions, Technology Groups and conference committees, ASME staff helps package these offerings to spread engineering knowledge and advancement across the globe.

The Director, TEC Product Management will report to the Managing Director, Technical Conferences and Member Communities and work closely with the Director, TEC Operations and the Director, Events Management and other ASME departments and partners with TEC leaders to develop the product roadmap, ideate innovative features, formulate product strategy, assess the competitive landscape, collect requirements, work closely with conferences teams (including internal staff and volunteer leaders), and evangelize product capabilities internally and externally.

This new position and collaboration is intended to result in better product decisions, better buy-in to decisions, continuous and accelerated development of staff and improvement in processes, and to set a clear role model of collaboration for the entire staff and volunteer base.

The ideal candidate will be data driven, have a strong technical understanding, able to drive decisions from large amounts of data, and have extensive product management experience. Leadership skills and outstanding analytical skills are crucial for this role.

An undergraduate degree is required and an engineering degree and/or professional engineering registration would be considered a plus. Must have a minimum of 10+ years of experience in planning, organizing, and managing product lifecycles. A proven decision maker with an ability to set priorities, implement and manage new and ongoing programs. Domestic and International travel will be required - ~5-10%.

In addition, candidate must possess:

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively apply strategic vision to identify, revise and/or suggest new directions and to inspire action (bring performance metrics).
  • Long-range strategic planning skills in order to anticipate trends and events, determine appropriate organizational direction and position the TEC Sector effectively.
  • Ability to provide strong and capable leadership, recommending, developing, and implementing policy and programs and mediating or solving problem among membership, staff, and others.
  • Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills and a natural predisposition toward data-based decision-making, but still able to make judgment calls in the face of uncertainty or imperfect data.
