Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Primary duty is in a recognized field of content creation, production and review across multiple communication platforms. The work requires the experience and ability to write and edit with accuracy, creativity and originality, meticulous attention to detail, clarity and quality. Duties also include organizing, coordinating and completing multiple, varied communications assignments for both internal and external clients. The person in this position:

  • Works with the Manager of Marketing and Communications (Manager), other cooperative managers/leaders and employees to produce and edit marketing, editorial and executive content to reach strategic goals. That work can include internal and external product marketing campaigns across a variety of platforms, content for all channels including Bluebonnet’s pages within Texas Co-op Power magazine, advertising, events and channels.
  • Exercise discretion and independent judgment in work with Manager, marketing and communications staff, other cooperative staff and consultants.
  • Works with all departments to establish their communications needs across all media, prioritize requests, work with staff to develop materials and translate requests into useful, member- or target-audience friendly materials.
  • Assists Manager and staff to plan and help with production of consistent, timely, engaging, diverse mix of written, photo and video content for all social media platforms, bluebonnet.coop, cooperative-hosted events for members/public/employees and other internal and external communications as needed.
  • Oversee and maintain relationships with vendors and project managers to meet deadlines, ensure quality and secure best pricing.
  • Work with Manager to develop, implement and maintain editorial and graphic style, policies and standards.
  • Work with staff to ensure photo, video and project files are organized and maintained in digital project file database for reproduction, revisal, retrieval and storage.
  • Assist with any other general responsibilities of the Marketing and Communications Department as well as other communications needs of various Bluebonnet projects, programs and events.
  • Travel to various Bluebonnet offices and work locations, including on days and times beyond standard workdays and weekends as needed.
  • Obtain and maintain basic equipment, knowledge and skills necessary to carry out job responsibilities, including use of computers, computer software, organizational and planning tools, smartphone camera and video and other equipment or programs as needed.
  • Appropriately handle confidential information and act within the practices established by the Bluebonnet Red Flag policy.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing/Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or other related field preferred. Degree may be substituted with appropriate field-related work experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in content creation which includes writing, editing and oversight of content for print, social media, video and online/web.
  • 5+ years of experience with standard publishing/design software, including Adobe suite and Microsoft Office suite.
  • A portfolio of work available for review.
  • Preferred:
    • Knowledge of Photoshop, XML, HTML, Adobe Premiere, Flash and/or other editing and publishing platforms that may be used.
    • Photography and video production and/or editing experience.

Licensing and Certification:

  • Valid Texas driver's license
  • Must be certified in CPR, First Aid, AED and blood-borne pathogens

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handle multiple assignments and accept feedback in positive, professional manner
  • Interpersonal skills that result in effective working relationships with peers, members and vendors
  • Working knowledge of and experience with MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Working knowledge of use of photos and videos on various platforms, including photo and video direction, selection and editing
  • Excellent data entry and fact-checking skills
  • Ability to write and edit in various styles including but not limited to: editorial, feature and news; utilizing AP Stylebook format

Tools and Equipment Used:

  • Office equipment, including computer, printer, copier, fax, etc.
  • Smartphone camera and video capabilities
  • Software including planning, organization and specialized programs such as a digital asset management system
  • May be required to drive a cooperative vehicle.
  • According to established business need, must maintain a mobile phone and appropriate communication access and plan.

Physical Demands:

  • Requires repetitive motion of hands and fingers, such as dialing and keyboarding.
  • Light lifting of up to 10 pounds.

Work Environment:

  • Typical office environment.
  • Hours are consistent with normal business operations; however work after hours, on weekends and during emergencies is required as needed.
  • Attendance at evening meetings, conferences, workshops and other professional events, including overnight travel, may be required.
