Dow Jones & Co., publisher of Market Watch News, is currently seeking a Reporter to cover all aspects of the energy markets and energy industries, including oil, natural gas and electricity for our Washington, DC office.

The candidate will be required to report on spot equities news, corporate events, cover hearings and produce features on the energy industry and legislative policies that shape it.

Essential Job Functions:
-Monitoring energy and utilities industries, policy and regulatory issues affecting those industries, spotting trends and integrating into sharp, readable copy
-Writing headlines and news “pulses” under real-time deadlines
-Covering earnings and conferences, and write spot news stories
-Be in regular contact with traders, analysts, strategists and economists
-Writing energy features
-Breaking out short news items into full stories

Job Specifications:
The candidate must possess 3-5 years experience as a financial reporter, preferably covering energy markets. S/he must have a working understanding of company earnings statements and corporate stock and bond ratings and be familiar with SEC filings. S/he must be able to work in a deadline environment and be able to interact easily with others. Must be a team player. Good spelling/grammar are extremely important. Excellent writing and communication skills required. Prior web experience preferred. Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook and other email interfaces (Hotmail, AOL, Earthlink, etc.). Bachelor or equivalent degree a plus.
