E-Content EditorIsland Press seeks a skilled and savvy writer and content manager to strengthen our electroniccontent, outreach and marketing. The ideal candidate will be a detail-oriented, creative,deadline-driven team player who is motivated and excited about connecting diverse onlinecommunities with Island Press’ leading collection of environmental books, along with theauthors and editors that have created them. In addition, this position will remotely manage asection of the Web site dedicated to disseminating research on aquaculture. This full-timeposition is based in our Washington, D.C. headquarters.Responsibilities• WRITE AND EDIT: Responsible for creating and managing content of Island Press website, including news, newsletters, “newsroom”, author/expert database, book web sites,blogs, and other materials (at least once a day).• MANAGE AND EDIT: Responsible for work with authors, editors and other staff tocreate a regular flow of current content connecting IP books to current events andbreaking news. Connecting authors and content with the press and others.• CULTIVATE RELATIONSHIPS: Cultivate relationships, post on boards or list servs,reply to comments on the blog, get Island Press content into online magazines,newsletters, social and community Web sites.• E-OUTREACH: Work with communications, marketing and program staff as necessary,coordinating, targeting, outreach, and posting for specific projects.• E-MARKETING: Focus on search engine optimization (SEO) - managing content tomaximize Island Press’ position on outside search engines and through links to otherorganizations.• MAINTAIN/AUTHOR COMMUNICATIONS: Update author/book blogs, podcasts, andother site content as necessary.• ONLINE ''PRESS SECRETARY'': Assist communications, marketing and program staffin targeting online magazines, newsletter, social, community and other web sites tospread the word on specific projects.• INTERNET TREND WATCH: Keep on top of the newest tools, trends, and onlineconversations.• UPDATE ISLAND PRESS' BOOK WEB SITE: Occasionally assist book web team withweb site updates.• MANAGE AQUAKE SITE: Remotely manage researching and uploading publicationsto popular aquaculture web site housed with Stanford University. This will require 50percent of position’s time. Training will be provided for this responsibility.Qualifications & Experience• Understand and be motivated by environmental issues and the opportunity tocreate exciting content that will stand out.• Superlative writing ability and an engaging voice.• At least two years of experience with e-content or thorough understanding of ecommunications.• An understanding of the environmental, scientific, policy, press and politicalcommunities.• The ability to be a creative, quick, resourceful thinker compatible with ecommunications• A journalism, marketing or publicity background may be helpful, depending onskills• Bachelor’s degree, preferably in journalism, marketing or publicity.• Experience with the Microsoft Windows and Office are required.
