The incumbent serves as the Editorial Intern for Smithsonian Publishing Digital Media group, focusing primarily on Smithsonian.com and goSmithsonian.com Websites, and is responsible for providing editorial support to the Web department.

The internship runs from September 14, 2007 to December 14, 2007.

Major Responsibilities include:

•Research and write original news and feature articles for online publication.
•Assist editors in fact-checking, proofreading, and researching projects.
•Post entries to the site's blogs.
•Organize Web permissions for images.
•Actively seek multimedia components to complement Web and magazine articles.
•Update the site's Events & Exhibitions section.
•Ensure all sections of the site remain fresh and dynamic, particularly the category pages.

Qualifications/Requirements:

1.Incumbent will have proven aptitude for writing and, preferably, a strong background in science, travel, culture or one of the other areas in which the magazine specializes.
2.Journalism experience, either at a magazine or newspaper, is expected (a student publication is fine).
3.Incumbent should be fluent in Microsoft Office applications and possess the writing ability to carry out duties in an efficient and effective manner.
4.Experience with Photoshop, HTML or a Web content management, or the willingness to learn.
5.The ability to handle several projects at once under deadline pressure is essential.

Candidates should be in the process of obtaining a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from a four-year college or university in Journalism, English and/or related discipline.
