Air & Space Web Production Intern
The Smithsonian Digital Media team is seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic emerging professional with a keen interest in digital media and production to assist with Air & Space magazine’s website, airspacemag.com. The incumbent will serve as the Web Production Intern for the bimonthly magazine, which covers the fields of aviation and space for a general audience.Internship Duration: 3 months Stiped: $1,500Major Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:•Assist Web editor by posting new magazine content, original articles, and multimedia (primarily photos and video) to the site.•Migrate archived magazine articles to the Web site by copying text from Quark publishing system and entering it in content management system. •Assist in migrating the site to a new content management system during fall 2007.•This job description in no way states or implies that these are the only duties to be performed by the incumbent in this position. The intern will be required to follow any other job-related instructions and to perform any other job-related duties requested by any person authorized to give instructions or assignments.Knowledge Required:Incumbent should be adept at using Macintosh computers running OS X. Incumbent should also have experience with Photoshop, HTML or a Web content management system, or the ability to learn. Knowledge/interest in aviation and space is a plus, but not required. Attention to detail and the ability to work under deadline pressure is essential. Incumbent should be fluent in Microsoft Office applications and possess solid writing skills – enough to carry out light editorial duties.Education and/or ExperienceCandidates should have a Bachelor's or Master's degree from a four-year college or university in Journalism, Interactive Media, Computer Science, and/or related discipline.Candidate selection will be contingent on the successful completion of a pre-appointment background check.EOENo phone calls, please.
