The Editorial Intern is responsible for providing editorial support to the Web department.

Essential Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

•Assist editors in fact-checking and researching projects.

•Help develop Smithsonian.com’s Destination Hunter, an online digital travel guide, by contacting outside sources, organizing the information, adding photos and writing captions.

•Organize Web permissions for images.

•Seek multimedia components to complement Web and magazine articles.

•Update Smithsonian.com’s and goSmithsonian’s Events & Exhibitions sections.

•Ensure all sections of the site remain fresh and dynamic, particularly the category pages.

•May research and write original news and feature articles for online publication.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Proven aptitude for writing and, preferably, a strong background in science, culture or one of the other areas in which the magazine specializes. Journalism experience, either at a magazine or newspaper, is expected (a student publication is fine). Web experience or degree in digital media required.

Fluency in Microsoft Office applications and should possess the writing ability to carry out duties in an efficient and effective manner. Experience with Photoshop, HTML or a Web content management, or the willingness to learn. The ability to handle several projects at once under deadline pressure is essential.

Candidates should be in the process of obtaining a Bachelor's or Master's degree from a four-year college or university in Journalism, English and/or related discipline.
