We are currently searching for a Senior Editor – Online for our flagship publication, BUILDER, to serve as anchor contributor, researching, reporting, writing, and editing original online stories as well as choosing and editing outside news stories for presentation online. Responsible for editorial oversight of Web site, working to ensure editorial content is presented in a clear and organized style complementary to our print publication.

Scope of Position: Demonstrates solid news judgment and understands the art of packaging and presenting content online. Provides original and compelling online content; additionally, ensures that online content supplements and enhances print content.

Major Responsibilities: 1. Reporting, writing, and editing original online content. 2. Gathering and compiling news from a variety of outlets, including wire services and traditional news sources, with an emphasis on delivering breaking news quickly and accurately. 3. Working with print senior editors, developing and producing extended feature content on the Web site through additional sidebars, interview material not used in print version, charts and tables, links to online resources, and other means of connecting print content to online content. 4. Maximizing reader interaction through forums, blogs, Web seminars, and other forms of electronic communication. 5. Assisting with development of new Web site features and other Web-based projects. 6. Attending conferences, trade shows, etc. in order to provide daily online coverage. 7. Analyze data to evaluate success of editorial content and programs to affect content choices.

Requirements: Five to seven years of daily journalism experience, at least 2 of which have been for an online publication; journalism degree preferred Strong news judgment Excellent writing and reporting skills Stellar editorial skills, including copyediting Keen attention to detail Ability to work independently, plus work well as part of team of dedicated writers and editors Ability to work under tight time constraints Familiarity with Web publishing tools

Frequency and Methods of Evaluation and Feedback: Ongoing meetings with Editor in Chief to discuss story developments Annual review to discuss job performance and goals in upcoming year.

Performance Measures: Ability to find and deliver breaking news stories quickly and accurately Ability to contribute and develop original story ideas on a regular basis Ability to write stories that are clear and concise, offer fresh insights, and are supported by solid evidence and reporting and that ultimately satisfy the interests of our readers Consistently meets deadlines Conducts oneself professionally and with honesty and integrity Ability to take on increasing editorial responsibility
