National Geographic is seeking a Senior Researcher to research, document, and ensure the accuracy and fairness of all editorial material published in National Geographic magazine, supplement maps, the magazine's website, and other special magazine projects. And to provide content for the Web derived from that research. A bachelor's degree and at least five years of editorial or research experience outside of college jobs and internships, of which at least two will be comparable to responsibilities of NGM research. Sound journalistic judgment and the ability to balance accuracy with compelling narrative and visual storytelling. Curiosity about topics covered in the magazine and the ability to grasp new subject matter quickly. Strong language skills and the ability to write short expository content for the Web. Good communications, including the ability to concisely explain a problem and to articulate a solution. People skills to deal positively and productively with a wide range of personalities, from temperamental writers to high-pressure industry spokespeople. Superior organization and the ability to budget time and handle several tasks simultaneously under the pressure of tight deadlines.
