Associate Web Editor – Washington, DC and Chicago, IL

Are you Smart, Fast, Competitive? At Hanley Wood these traits are the foundation of who we are. We believe in the magic of collaboration, the power of insight infused by imagination, and the ability of ideas to transform business.

Hanley Wood is the leading business-to-business media company serving the housing and construction industry, and one of the top 10 B2B media companies in the country.

We are over 700 employees strong with offices nationally. We enjoy a corporate culture that simultaneously encourages high levels of creativity and productivity. Those who thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and are motivated by personal and team success will find a challenging and rewarding career here at Hanley Wood.

We currently have two growth positions in our Business Media department for an Associate Web Editor. These positions can be located in either our Chicago, IL or Washington, DC office.

The Associate Web Editor position involves managing and developing online editorial content for Hanley Wood, and assisting in the development of new Web sites and ancillary services. Qualified candidates will help make the company’s Web sites compelling, fun, easy-to-use and indispensable to end users interested in commercial and residential construction, remodeling, architecture and design. You will also follow online editorial projects through from conception to production while maintaining Hanley Wood editorial and production quality standards.

Scope of Position:
Under the supervision of the online editorial director, the Web editor is responsible for the online editorial content, technical execution, and delivery to the end user of a variety of Hanley Wood Web sites, and for the implementation of related content-based extensions and ancillary services. Working closely with the chief editor and staff of the relevant Hanley Wood print publication, the Web editor creates, maintains and enhances world-class Web sites, utilizing content from Hanley Wood publications, original reporting, outside news sources, multimedia, reader-generated content, blogs, and new and developing sources.

A Hanley Wood Web editor edits sites daily, looking for news that will help our professional construction-industry visitors run their businesses more efficiently and profitably. The Web editor converts and places content from Hanley Wood magazines on Web sites, engages our readers in online forums and interactive polls, travels to and reports from industry trade shows, produces e-mail newsletters, and creates new online features for our sites.

In addition to daily editing of Web sites, the Web editor will participate in the planning and execution related to the redesign and relaunch of existing Hanley Wood Web sites in the new Tridion content-management environment.

The ideal Hanley Wood Web editor is a confident industry pro who will engage our Web audience, take full charge of assigned Web sites, and push the boundaries as we roll out new features – and new Web sites -- on a regular basis. While some writing is involved in the position – and excellent writing and communication skills are required – this position is not a reporting position. Rather, it is a job for a technologically literate journalist who wants to create and improve our Web sites.

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience:

•2-5 years editorial experience in print or Web journalism.
•Excellent skills in content editing, copy editing, and writing.
•Experience with or knowledge of online content management, MS Office, PDF, XML, RSS, HTML, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Tridion, Brightcove Storymaker, online surveys, blogs and user-submitted content.
•Experience in or knowledge of the home-building, construction, remodeling, or design industries.
•Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
•Strong oral and written communication skills.
•Ability to multi-task and juggle multiple projects that are in varying states of completion.
•Ability to thrive under pressure, meet daily (sometimes hourly) deadlines and react quickly and calmly in a rapidly changing editorial environment.

You owe it to yourself to work for a dynamic company. Employee satisfaction is important to us, so we provide competitive compensation and benefits with a dynamic workplace setting. If you meet the required skills and qualifications and want to learn more, apply on line at www.hanleywood.com
