National Journal Group, Washington's leading online and print publisher of news and information on politics and policy, is currently seeking a senior-level professional to lead our dynamic events and communications team.

Position Description:

•Work with NJG editorial talent and advertising partners to create event product line
•Help managers determine pricing strategies for event packages and direct all logistic efforts including invitation strategy and design, catering, venue, and A/V
•Lead 2008 Political Conventions business including staffing and travel, key relationships, press credentialing, and event operations in addition to serving as the on-site general manager for all Convention-related activities in Denver and Minneapolis from August 20 – September 5
•Establish and manage coordinated public relations strategy for the collective NJG enterprise as well as for its individual media properties (National Journal, CongressDaily, The Hotline,, The Almanac of American Politics)
•Develop and implement earned and paid media strategies to increase visibility of organization and publications as dictated by the overall PR strategy; and develop recommendations for proactive media engagement
•Work with executive and editorial teams to create a tailored campaign to feature individual talent throughout the organization via media interviews (broadcast and print), speaking engagements, panel participation and other opportunities
•Conceptualize, draft and develop information kits, news releases, and other promotional materials
•Manage a small team

•Ability and willingness to work under tight and constant deadlines
•Strong sense of creativity and original thought
•Ability to build relationships at the highest level, both externally and internally


•Minimum 7-10 years experience working in related fields, including communications, public relations, public affairs, media relations, events management, marketing and/or journalism
•Strong working knowledge of and relationships with the Washington, DC media market
•Proven track record conceptualizing and organizing events including identifying and recruiting talent
