The Atlantic is seeking a Director, New Business Development to further advance the success of The Atlantic’s events and live programming division, “Atlantic LIVE”.

The Director will:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with new and existing event clients; grow revenue/profit from existing accounts year-over-year and secure new and profitable event partnerships
  • Support the ad sales team in their efforts to sell events and sponsorships, serving as a “specialist” who can help in proposing and closing business that leads to lasting and commercially successful advertising and/or fee-based partnerships
  • Identify market opportunities/needs—either on an individual client basis or across a sector and work with internal managers to create new program opportunities to take to market, and provide market intelligence and background research to work with internal managers
  • Develop program pricing and accurate cost estimates, in conjunction with internal event and marketing leaders, to maximize our revenue (media, fees) opportunity and event profitability
  • Manage the client relationship, in partnership with the Event Manager assigned, through the execution of the event, including pre-calls, event staffing, and debrief
  • Maintain a database of current/prospective event clients for frequent outreach and updates on event opportunities
  • Inform our ongoing business strategy development through deep knowledge and understanding of the market, categories, event business, and trends
  • Serve as a representative of The Atlantic’s brand within the event and advertising community in a positive, convincing, and enthusiastic manner


Characteristics of the ideal candidate:

  • Highly motivated self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit who will also thrive in a team setting
  • Substantial event planning experience
  • Exceptional sales skills and demonstrated experience managing client relationships
  • Outstanding organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail
  • Persuasive communication skills and self-possession in presentation
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Willingness to travel regularly
  • This position reports directly to the President of Atlantic LIVE
