We currently have a growth opportunity in our Business Media division for an Associate Editor to serve as a supporting contributor to Building Products Magazine -- researching, reporting, and writing feature stories and articles for selected departments for publication both in print and online.

The Associate Editor position will primarily research, report, and write authoritatively on building products, sustainable home building, and cool new technologies. You also will write for two Web sites, manage three awards programs, attend industry trade shows, and host meetings. The Associate Editor may also proofread stories and e-newsletters, and write headlines and decks. This position offers a path toward becoming a future chief editor.

Responsibilities include: • Research, develop, and write about 20 1,200-word stories each year. • • Develop and produce original and/or extended content for the magazine’s Web sites through additional sidebars, interview material not used in print, charts and tables, links to online resources, and other means of connecting print content to online content. • Assist in the development of special projects including execution of publication research and special industry reports. • Assist in proofreadingstories both for print and online • Maintain up-to-date records on industry contacts and current files on relevant industry reports. • Train and serve as resource to editorial interns on writing captions, researching stories, and contest management. .

Qualified candidates need to possess the following: • Education: B.A. or B.S. • Minimum two years experience as writer preferably at magazines, newspapers, or Web sites. . • Strong writing, grammar, and research skills. • Proficient with Microsoft Word, , Excel, and l on-line services. InCopy skills a plus. • High level of comfort and ability speaking in public as you will represent the publication and Web site in a professional manner in all dealings with industry contacts. • Project management skills sufficient to oversee awards programs. • Ability to work as part of a team. • Ability to take initiative when there’s a problem to be solved. • Ability to take direction • Ability to travel several times per year to attend industry trade shows and conferences and to interview industry contacts and experts on selected stories.
