Washington, DC-based for-profit strategic communications firm seeks seasoned accounting, finance and administrative professional with substantial expertise in related management information systems, including human resources and employee benefits, to serve as Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
The successful candidate must be qualified to serve as the chief financial planner for the firm, providing sophisticated advice and counsel that will promote stability and profitability while enhancing its performance.

The CFO will be responsible for providing complete, accurate and timely accounting and financial reporting at the corporate level. He/she will oversee two or more accounting staff and certain outside professional services vendors. The CFO will oversee employee and benefits systems, including payroll processing, and enrollment and administration of all employee benefits plans. He/she will keep up-to-date files for vendors, customers, job agreements, project budgets, invoices and related reports. He/she will prepare monthly project financial reports, including revenue projections, and financial statements, develop budget templates and provide ongoing assistance to technical staff in preparing client proposals, managing contracts, reviewing billing and client reporting. He/she will ensure that the firm’s financial policies and procedures provide adequate controls over assets, contracts administration, revenue generation, expenditures and financial reporting, and will regularly identify opportunities to reduce operating costs and improve operating efficiency.

He/she must be someone who can keep up with marketplace trends and help the President and Managing Director develop salary/compensation plans, identify growth opportunities and provide sound guidance (from a finance and systems perspective) on marketing activities and expansion of services.

Candidates are expected to have excellent technical skills, and an ability to translate financial information and systems to non-financial staff.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate a substantial track record of success in another professional services firm (public relations, lobbying, law, advertising), fully understanding and appreciating the business development and client billing (hourly, retainer, expense reimbursement) cycles.

Candidates must have experience working in companies with operations in several states and prepared for the multiple reporting requirements that result.

Ideally, candidates will have a CPA; an MBA or Master’s in Accounting is desirable. She/he will have at least eight years of experience as an accountant and three-five years of hiring, on-boarding and managing a team of 2-5 accounting staff.
