POSITION DESCRIPTION: Dow Jones Newswires seeks a reporter to cover the oil futures market out of New York. This reporter's primary responsibility will be to write several market commentaries a day on price moves in futures markets for crude oil and other major petroleum-based fuels, billions of dollars of which trade every day. Apart from daily coverage, which involves talking to traders and explaining the impact of macroeconomic and geopolitical developments on energy markets and prices, the job involves writing features on trading strategies and on drivers of energy prices trends. As the oil market is a global one, the reporter coordinates closely with colleagues in the trading centers of London and Singapore. The person also has a mandate to break news on how hedge funds are performing and well as on big moves (profitable or otherwise) by prominent commodities traders and investors.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Dow Jones Newswires is looking for candidates who have demonstrated their ability to work in a fast-moving, sometimes stressful environment with extremely tight deadlines. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, problem solving and an excellent command of written and spoken English are a must. Candidates should have previous reporting experience, preferable covering energy, at a news wire, newspaper or magazine.
