Position Description:
Bedford, Freeman and Worth Publishing Group (BFW) has an immediate opening for a Project Manager to manage the maintenance and development of BFWs Learning Management System in our Central Media group.

The Project Manager is responsible for managing the creation of web-based software applications (i.e. platforms) that supplement our college textbooks. The ideal candidate will manage development of the product platforms through the software development lifecycle and is directly responsible for requirements definition, functional specification, and use case definition. After these initial project phases, the project manager is responsible for managing the development of the platform through to completion, including: technical specification, development, QA, roll-out, documentation and training. After roll-out of the platform, the Project Manager is the point person for all requests (requirements, bug fixes, integrations, etc.) related to the platform.

The Project Manager will work closely with editorial, software architects, software developers, media production and the QA team to create stable, scalable platforms.
This position reports to the Director of Program and Project Management.

Major Responsibilities:
Manage the development of software applications through the entire software development lifecycle
Work closely with editors and business-side managers to understand and document requirements
Write functional specifications
Define and document use cases for the platform
Work with software architects to map requirements to the technical specifications
Manage software developers through the development cycle (off-shore and on-staff resources)
Oversee QA along with the QA manager, review test plans and test scripts
Manage application roll out and delivery
Define and document production processes for new platforms
Proactive problem-solving in a fast-paced web environment
Manage schedules, resources and expectations
Status reporting to editorial and technical teams
Identify and document existing and new requirements for each platform
Identify and communicate any issues that may delay or interrupt the application development process
Communication with high-level staff including publishers, editors, and senior management

Required Skills / Knowledge:
Extensive knowledge in Learning/Course Management System application development (Moodle, Angel, Blackboard, Desire2Learn, WebCT)
Familiarity with the tools and protocols used for developing software applications: usability, software development life cycle (SDLC), QA, business analysis
Proficiency with MS Office, MS Project
Exceptional communication, project management and organizational skills
Ability to work independently
Ability to manage across multiple divisions: developers, QA, editorial, production
Educational publishing experience a plus

Experience Needed:
5 years project management experience

Educational Background Required:
Bachelors degree
