Designer:
To be responsible for all stages of design for paperback and hardcover books from manuscript to bound book. To be responsible for the design of selective children's books projects ranging from illustrated Chapter Books and Middle Grade novels, to Teen novels.
Under supervision:
Prepare sample pages.
Design and prepare jacket, cover, binding and interior mechanicals for the printer.
Check color proofs and various stages of printing through bound book.
Create PDFs as per our printers specifications for both jkt and interiors.
Keep manager informed of projects.
Keep book projects on timely schedule to maintain publication schedule.
Become knowledgeable with the process of epson proofs, color proofs, match prints, irises, blues etc. and various stages of the
printing process through bound books.
Work with production team to color correct PDF irises and create spec dies for jkts/covers as needed.
Handle projects/tasks assigned in a timely way by being a trouble-shooter, problem solver and deadline maker.
Archive all projects in DAM on a timely basis.
Keep production status on server updated.
Provide administrative support to supervisor.

Actively keep abreast of current trends within the industry, and the greater tween and teen markets at large.
For example:
Visit book stores on a regular basis to be familiar with competitive titles
Add to the in-house visual trend guide on a regular basis by contributing clippings or any other reference material that is relevant to a current trend in books, magazines, music, clothing, advertising, general pop culture.


- Must possess 2 to 4 years of prior relevant work experience.
- Knowledge of typography, graphic design, book manufacturing, printing, and production.
- Proficiency with Macintosh, InDesign, Adobe Acrobat, Quark, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
- Excellent oral and written communication.
- Be detail oriented, well organized and able to set priorities under pressure.
