Reporting to the Vice President for Communications and Marketing, the Manager, Public Relations:

- Manages public and press relations requests, including assigning, overseeing, prioritizing and researching requests as stories develop
- Directly handles individual publicity assignments as required
- Responsibility for the proactive and innovative pitching of stories in print, broadcast and online media
- Oversees the creation of press releases for Library programs, exhibitions, events, acquisitions and other activitiesincluding researching, writing, and editing releases in collaboration with other Library departments
- Prepares backgrounders for major interviews
- Cultivates and maintains relationships with the media
- Works closely with marketing and digital staff in the creation of new- and multi-media content of interest to a variety of news outlets channels
- Coordinates press for film shoots and photography in all library venues
- Performs related duties as required

Eligibility Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Communications or related discipline
- Significant public relations and/or journalism experience, preferably 7+ years
- Successfully demonstrated managerial experience, preferably 2+ years
- Significant experience consistently and successfully pitching targeted news stories and cultivating relationships with members of the press and others
- Significant experience using online and social media for PR outreach
- Knowledge of national and local media as well as online news and feature sites
- Excellent editorial command and judgment
- Strong written and oral communications skills
- Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills
- Ability to work quickly and effectively under pressure with strong decision-making skills
- Strong interest and background in literature, art, history, literacy, education business, community resources and other areas in which the library focuses
