Develop major college textbooks and associated ancillary resources in the humanities, social and natural sciences, and engineering by working closely with authors, acquisition editors, peer reviewers, production, marketing, and sales to ensure successful and timely publications.

Manage development of key first edition texts and revisions: prepare preliminary assessments of manuscripts, analyze competing works, analyze and summarize manuscript reviews, provide authors with direction on the writing and organization of content, edit manuscripts, develop illustration programs, create and elaborate sales features, oversee preparation of manuscripts for transmittal into production, and assess need for and quality of ancillary materials.

Conduct market research in established and new college text markets in consultation with acquisition editors.

Create and manage project schedules to ensure timely publication of new titles. Ensure the publication of only the highest quality products.

Work closely with the production department to ensure optimal presentation of each major text, its elements, and its ancillaries for the specified market.

Work closely with marketing and sales to support the promotion of each key text.

University degree required. Excellent editing skills (demonstrated in recent work experience as an editor) and a strong eye for detail are essential. Strong analytical, communication, conflict-resolution, and problem-solving skills required. Demonstrated ability to develop and control a large number of projects simultaneously, on schedule, and within budget required. Three-to-five years of previous editing experience developing college textbooks required. Experience developing first editions desired. The position involves occasional travel to campuses, author meetings, sales conferences, and academic conventions. This position is based in New York City.
