Magazine Production Manager/Graphic Artist
United Spinal Association, a New York based 501(c)(3) nonprofit that publishes magazines, books, brochures and other materials for people with disabilities, has an opening based in its Horsham, PA or East Elmhurst, New York office. We seek to hire an experienced production manager and graphic artist familiar with pre-press processes who has at least 3 years experience in print and digital design and production. Preference will be given to those experienced in four-color magazine design and production. The right person must have superior organizational skills and pay meticulous attention to detail. We are also looking for someone who possesses strong communication skills and has the ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment, while still producing extremely high quality work. You should also have the flexibility to accommodate changes and requests from partner departments, with a demonstrated ability to solve problems and multi-task.The position includes the production of 2 magazines, and layout of one of them. One magazine is monthly, and one bi-monthly. In addition, the position includes design, layout and production of collateral marketing materials such as: advertisements, flyers, brochures, pamphlets, trade show signage, ad specialties, and more. Job responsibilities for this position include: Maintaining regular communication with multiple departments including Editorial, Marketing and SalesDummying the magazines (creating flat plans)Trafficking and preflighting ad materialsManaging advertiser artwork changesMaking corrections in InDesign and Photoshop filesPreparing and preflighting final digital files for printing of all publicationsPosting final files to printer FTP sitesReviewing and signing off on soft proofs from printerManaging files on our FTP siteCreating and enforcing production schedules for all publicationsMaintaining a master font library and purchasing clean fonts as necessaryRepurposing editorial content for online usePreparing and transmitting images for websites as directed by editorialPreparing and uploading files for our online digital edition of the magazineDesigning some ads under direction of advertisersDesigning promotional materials under direction of SVP of marketingDesigning, organizing and assigning in-house print jobs such as flyers, direct mail pieces, reader service cards, business cards, stationery, etc.Being the point of contact for all production queries, technical or otherwise.Preparing content for posting on our social media sitesRequirements This is a Mac platform based position. You must be proficient in InDesign, Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, Illustrator, Suitcase Fusion, Microsoft Office, latest Mac operating systems, and high resolution scanning. You must be familiar with magazine industry production standards, including photo resolution, font management, prepress file management, and computer-to-plate protocols. While this is an on-site position, you must be able to communicate effectively with off-site editors and designers. You'll also need a pleasant personality and excellent interpersonal skills.
