Visual Designer

Dartmouth Colleges Publications Department is seeking a Visual Designer. The right candidate will be taking a leadership role in collaborating with the Director to develop, articulate, and promote visual design approaches and treatment for content and publications, both print and digital, produced by the Office of Public Affairs. This person will serve as a resource for colleagues across the College for print and digital publication direction and expertise.

Areas of accountability for this position include but are not limited to:

Bringing a creative, critical, and analytical approach to the visual design of institutional communications projects, providing art direction for Public Affairs initiatives and consultation and direction on projects across the campus.
Conceiving, planning, managing, and executing the visual design, production and delivery of a number of key Dartmouth College communication efforts, with emphasis on projects and initiatives of the Office of Public Affairs and the Presidents Office.
Providing visual design support for websites, email campaigns, social media, and other digital communication efforts; assisting with developing the user interface of digital communications; providing art direction, layout, and production support for the Dartmouth Life periodical, publicity posters, and other print collaterals.
Defining and managing Dartmouths visual identity standards through collaboration with graphics and design colleagues across campus, ensuring a cohesive and clear communication of image; developing visual identity style guide for internal and external use.
Maintaining relationships with, and contracts work from, a variety of vendors including designers, printers, writers, and photographers.
Working with other Dartmouth clients to determine project scope and need; providing recommendations on project delivery solutions using either internal or external printing and production and/or web resources.
Performs other duties as assigned
Required Skills and Knowledge

Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite; well-versed in fundamental visual design disciplines and principles; highly organized and deadline driven passion for visual communication, and storytelling; web design or HTML/CSS familiarity desired but not required; excellent communication and organizational skills.

Minimum Qualifications

At least 3 years of design experience on a creative team.
Experience working in higher education preferred but not required.
Bachelors degree in Fine Arts of Graphic Design, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
