The Department of Television invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position - with emphasis in Producing/Writing - beginning FALL 2012. Our students are expected to balance a liberal arts education with extensive preparation to enter the television industry and we require a professional who can model excellence for our students while working in a dynamic learning environment.
The Television Department of Columbia College Chicago currently serves 330 undergraduate majors with a rigorous curriculum in Aesthetics, Studio and Field Production, Producing, Editing, Motion Graphics, Internet & Mobile Television and Writing. The department is an integral part of the School of Media Arts, which in addition to Television includes vital programs in Film, Audio Arts and Acoustics, Interactive Arts and Media, Marketing Communication, Journalism and Radio. The College offers a dynamic environment with much opportunity for dialogue and collaboration.
Responsibilities will focus on teaching television producing and development courses. The desired candidate will be prepared to teach both introductory and advanced courses and help expand and refine the curriculum. The position will take an active role in shaping the programming produced in advanced classes and in cooperation with Frequency TV, the student run network. The ability to translate high professional standards to an academic environment is critical for this position.
In addition to teaching, the faculty member will be expected to continue working on professional projects and to pursue a creative and/or scholarly agenda worthy of national or international recognition. The ideal candidate will have significant national and/or international producing and writing credits for either scripted or non-scripted television genres. Credits in emerging forms like Internet and Mobile Television are especially desirable.
Candidates should hold an MFA, PhD or appropriate advanced degree, have college-level teaching experience, a track record of excellence in the classroom and experience in course design. Faculty members should also be prepared to participate in the civic, cultural and college community as part of their responsibilities.
