The Senior Online Editor plays a leading role in conceptualizing and developing digital content for HBR.org and other devices and platforms. Because the HBR Group works across platforms (books, magazine, new products), the Senior Online Editor may take on tasks in these areas as well but the web is this roles primary focus.

Key Responsibilities:
Serves as a senior editorial point person on various new and existing digital content and product initiatives, driving these efforts forward by bringing a high-quality and high-level editorial sensibility, liaising with other editors, and coordinating with commercial and technical colleagues.

Shapes and oversees the overall editorial balance of the blog network; analyzes and responds to traffic patterns; works with other editors and bloggers to continually improve the quality and relevance of submissions to the network, conceptualizes and executes new ways to use the blog network to accomplish group-wide strategic goals.

Identifies and signs up new voices with original, influential ideas and cross-platform potential. Works with high-profile authors to translate their ideas and content for the web.

Actively monitors our analytic platforms as a key part of editorial role, communicating insights and driving decisions based in part on the metrics analysis.

Works with senior web editors to ensure web programming is brand-appropriate and meeting audience needs and usability best practices, and with the production team and other web editors to ensure smooth content operations. Works with other editors to identify digital opportunities for content that originates on other platforms and to develop content that works for an online audience.

Co-leads a topic-based Idea Team of HBRG editors, responsible for scanning the academic and business landscape for original, important ideas, mentoring junior editors, and developing ideas into published contentonline and off.


Requirements:
Wide-ranging, creative intellect and sharp editorial judgment
Flexible, innovative and collaborative attitude
Proven interest in management-related ideas
Proven sensitivity to reader/user experience
Excellent author acquisition and relationship management skills
Ability to spot and quickly shape a good story
Fast, reliable line editor
At least 8 years experience in digital media
Facility with multimedia storytelling, including experience with short-form video
Solid technical grounding understanding of content management systems, experience with web redesigns, etc
In-depth and up-to-date understanding of digital trends and metrics
Lateral/informal leadership skills (ability to persuade colleagues to take on projects, help further shift to a more digital culture)
Capacity to mentor junior colleagues
BA or equivalent
