Your tasks
Watson-Guptill is currently seeking a talented, market-savvy, highly motivated, energetic, and enthusiastic Senior Editor to join the Crown Publishing Group?s Editorial team. Reporting to the editorial director of Watson-Guptill, Amphoto, and Potter Craft, the Senior Editor will solicit, acquire, evaluate, develop, and edit manuscripts and proposals in all areas of the art instruction category from concept to back list. Watson-Guptill is the preeminent publisher of beautifully designed and heavily illustrated how-to books on fine art and art instruction titles?painting, drawing, design, mixed media, comics and cartooning, manga, and animation. This is a fabulous opportunity to work for a prestigious and storied imprint while helping to take it in new and exciting directions.

Some Additional Responsibilities Include:
-Manuscript development and line editing; copywriting, including jacket, catalog, fact sheets, and other marketing copy
-Managing an associate editor and an editorial assistant
-Acting as a liaison between authors and editors, agents, freelancers, and different departments within the company
-Trafficking books through all stages of editorial production and coordinating the process with the authors
-Editing mss. and assessing art programs
-Researching trends and competition
-Running P&Ls and analyzing and interpreting sales data
-Collaborating with all in-house departments (publicity, marketing, sales, production, design, etc.) and championing all authors/projects/lists/imprint
-Negotiating contracts with new and repeat authors
-Identifying trends
-Presenting titles at editorial boards, launch meetings, etc.





Our requirements
Candidates should be creative thinkers, team players, innovative, committed, goal oriented, and have strong management skills, and an entrepreneurial approach to publishing. Strong interpersonal, communication, writing, and computer skills are essential. The ability to collaborate, strategize, prioritize, meet deadlines, and work independently is required. Candidates must be passionate, either professionally or personally, about art, art instruction, and art materials and should come in with solid contacts in the art world. We are looking for someone who has at least five years illustrated book publishing editorial experience
