The VP Publicity will be responsible for development and execution of strategic and successful publicity campaigns for key consumer-facing U.S. brands.

Principal Accountabilities:

Works with EVP Communications to create and implement BBC Worldwide Americas pro-active publicity strategy in line with the positioning and priorities for each business. Builds profile for those businesses in the US media while working within the corporate framework.
Effectively manages and leads the publicity teams on a day-to-day basis across consumer-facing businesses.
Develops effective, creative and original publicity campaigns in the traditional and digital space.
Delivers specific events (e.g. TCA, press conferences) according to strategic priorities.
Works to EVP Communications on issues relating to corporate communications, talent management and crisis management.
Acts as a company spokesperson as appropriate.
Advises heads of departments on issues relating to the press, talent and crisis management as appropriate.
Positions departmental heads and creates profile opportunities in the trade press.
Oversees all program publicity campaigns for BBC America and liaises with programming/marketing/brand teams both in the US and the UK.
Develops and implements new processes and strategy to ensure optimum results for BBC Americas first steps into original production.
Works closely with the affiliate and ad sales teams to build profile and support achievement of goals.
Produces collateral both traditional and digital - that is highly effective and on brand across each area as appropriate.
Works to a cost-effective budget for each business area.
Is a key point of contact with talent and agents.
Procures and manages talent for specific events in line with priorities.
Works closely with business partners to ensure unity of approach and correct representation e.g. Discovery, 2E etc.
Provides effective training and development opportunities for staff.
Provides guidance to communications staff working on BBC Entertainment and CBeebies in Latin America.
Manages any US PR agencies/consultants connected with consumer-facing brands.

Knowledge and Experience:

Requires a strong track record in communications, preferably for a media organization. (8+ years)
Knowledge or experience of the BBC at an international level
Extensive relationships with US media (consumer and trade)
Knowledge of the US cable industry
A strong grasp of social media and digital opportunities
Outstanding talent management skills
Experience in crisis management
Experience in confidently and wisely advising senior executives
Excellent communications and writing skills
Managerial experience in both running, appraising and motivating teams
Strong event management skills
An experienced operator in dealing with sensitive, confidential and controversial issues
Experience in delivering to tight deadlines and working creatively with tight budgets
