KHOU 11 in Houston is seeking a Web/Social Media Producer with strong news judgment and an in-depth knowledge of social media platforms. The Web/Social Media Producer will work with the Digital and News teams to identify engaging content and publish across all digital platforms. The successful candidate will be results oriented, passionate about local news and social media and thrives under tight deadlines. Key qualifications include success with developing social audiences, creativity, strong AP skill set and leadership abilities. You are able to analyze digital metrics from a variety of sources and apply these to the ever-changing world of web, apps and social media.

The Web / Social Media Producer will play the leading role in shaping the organizations long-term social media, outreach and engagement strategy. The editor will also manage and grow the day-to-day operations of the KHOU 11 robust social media presence and communities.

Primary Responsibilities:
Begin each day by encoding overnight video, writing search-optimized video headlines and posting video to khou.com and all social platforms.

Develop photo slideshows from KHOU 11 news content, Getty images and posting to all platforms.

Write AP-style story content and post to all platforms.

Evangelize the benefits of social media throughout the newsroom.

Attend the daily morning Editorial meeting to identify daily coverage to be pushed to social platforms while working closely with news staff.

Training colleagues wiht differing skill sets on best practices for individual and organizational success in social media and jouranlism tools.

Collaborates with colleagues on the best way to use social media to connect with a TV audience and TV to connect with a social media audience.

Bring fresh ideas to the job each day and communicate these effectively. Build trust and foster community in a fast-paced environment of continuously updated news.

Collaborate closely with the News and Digital teams regarding consistency of content to post.

Monitor social media accounts for fan questions and feedback, and responds accordingly.

Monitor industry trends and competitors, and surfaces best practices to implement here.

Attends KHOU community events to evangelize KHOU social platforms.

The hours for this position are M-F / 5am-2 pm and special events as necessary.

Job Requirements:
Bachelors degree or background in Journalism with a proficiency in AP-Style. (Note: Will take a writing assessment on AP-style during interview process.)

Must be self-motivated, a great communicator, comfortable with independent decision-making, thrive on multidisciplinary teams, and able to meet short deadlines.

Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines in a team environment. Demonstrate strong news judgment and journalistic integrity.

Strong attention to detail; ability to work independently and as part of a team

Comfortable in a PC work environment. Will learn the web, video, photo slideshow and social platforms under the KHOU brand.
