The production editor is responsible for coordinating editorial, art, and production departments and ensuring that each issue of the magazine is error-free, on time, and meets the highest standards of quality. Reports to the editor. Responsibilities include:-Composing production schedule and overseeing the timely and accurate production of the magazine. -Acting as liaison between editorial, advertising, production, and design.-Overseeing the work of freelance copyeditor and proofreader.-Generating galleys and routing them through editorial; arranging for excerpt permissions; arranging for artwork and related permissions; assigning photo/art credits.-Maintaining in-house style sheets and graphics standards manual.-Coordinating the mapping of each issue with advertising, editorial, and design.-Closing each issue in-house, overseeing corrections and ensuring that files are complete.-Reviewing final galleys and proofs.-Overseeing the printing of the magazine. -Reviewing bound book for quality control, reviewing invoices, and tracking budget discrepancies.-Coordinating relationships with the printer and paper broker.-Coordinating closing for magazine content online, preparing print magazine files for all digital editions. -Approving all permissions requests, tracking permissions, and coordinating royalty payments with the accounting department.Qualifications:-At least three years of experience in magazine production.-Strong facility with Adobe CS5 required.-Familiarity with Mac platforms.-Knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style.-Ability to multitask on deadline.-Excellent communication and organizational skills.-Knowledge of and interest in contemporary literature.Please send resume and cover letter to Kevin Larimer, Editor, Poets & Writers, 90 Broad Street, Suite 2100, New York, NY 10004 or by e-mail to email@example.com.
