Your tasks
Under limited supervision of the Senior Editor, manages development and workflow of assigned titles from the post-contract stage to handover of the final manuscript to the Publishing Editor or Springer Production. Ensures that content, length, illustration program, and format are appropriate for the project.
?Manages development of atlases and other assigned projects from signed contract to handover of final manuscript, working with Senior Editor, Publishing Editors, Academic Editors, and Director of Editorial Operations to ensure that schedules and budget are met, title content is as planned for market, and high editorial standards are met
?Works with Academic Editors to finalize tables of contents and develop manuscript content and format. Reworks complex text to adhere to desired format or to reach target audience (suggests cuts, additions, or revisions to text)
?Works with Contributors to ensure dates and budget are kept
?May work with Academic Editor to secure late manuscripts, or when manuscript cannot be procured, work with Academic Editor to update the chapter as much as possible for the pending edition
?Contacts Contributors and/or Publishing Editors as needed to obtain any missing elements.
?Copyedits/proofreads manuscript, including all text, tables, and graphic material in accordance with Springer style
?Assesses digital art to ensure that it meets criteria for correct resolution and format
?Prepares and submits line art to the illustration department and checks art proofs for accuracy
?Works with Contributors to resolve editorial queries
?Delivers final manuscript to Publishing Editor or Springer Production
?Keeps detailed records for each project, including number of tables and figures and the status of each chapter as it moves through the commissioning stage to handover to production
?As needed, sends invitations; authorization-to-publish, affiliation, and permission request forms; and manuscript and artwork guidelines to Academic Editors and Contributors; ensures all required forms are signed, completed, and returned by Contributors
?Reviews the work of freelance editors and indexers
?Trains new Associate Editors and Assistant Editors
?Performs related duties as required

Our requirements
Bachelor?s degree and minimum 3 to 5 years? experience in related editorial capacity. Must be well organized and attentive to detail, with strong communication skills (both verbal and written). Must have strong copyediting skills and proficiency in MS Word and Excel. Must be able to manage several projects at once and set/reset priorities as necessary.
