Garland Science, a part of the Taylor & Francis Group, recognized as a leader in scientific publishing for the higher education market is currently searching for an Acquisitions Editor. We publish in courses for the advanced undergraduate/graduate/medical markets. Due to the highly authoritative nature of the books, they also enjoy significant sales in the professional market.

DUTIES:

Reporting to the Vice President, the Acquisitions Editor is responsible for building distinguished and marketable lists in biology with a specialization in neuroscience, immunology, and molecular biology. To that end, the Acquisitions Editor will work to acquire $1.0 million (first printing) in new product per year and to work with the author and Garland team to bring those titles to fruition with the expectation of a substantial list of first editions being published in four years. There are also several key revisions in this area of responsibility.

Key accountabilities are: Commissioning; project management; strategic planning and analysis; relationship management with key contacts; and budget management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree; advanced degree in acquisition area of responsibility a plus. Five to eight years experience with a book publisher is required; preferably in acquisitions with a scientific or medical publisher.


SKILLS:

Candidates must possess excellent writing skills and the ability to work independently and imaginatively in seeking out promising book projects and the tenacity and organizational skills to see projects through to successful publication. Candidates must be proficient in MS Word, Excel and Internet research. Planned travel of approximately 30 days per year is required. Knowledge of publishing trends and markets important.
