California Lawyer – Art DirectorWe are currently seeking an Art Director, someone who will design and layout our monthly award-winning magazine and the digital edition. Responsibilities: Work closely with editors to create and oversee the overall look of the magazine, which goes out to a sophisticated and diverse readership of 140,000 lawyers in California. Oversee the design of the website. Hire and manage freelancers as needed. Design each month's cover and the feature stories; lay out departments and columns, oversee the photos, illustrations, and graphics. Design collateral materials as needed (i.e. press kit). Manage the art and photo department budget. Coordinate with the production and editorial departments to make sure deadlines are met. Make sure the magazine's overall brand, including its website and other digital products, has a consistent visual presentation.Position: Art DirectorCity: San FranciscoDuration: Full-timeCompany: Daily Journal CorporationJob Requirements: BFA, BA, or MFA in graphic design, art or similar field of study. At least 6 years of editorial design experience at a print magazine as the art director or deputy art director. Experience producing compelling covers, creating charts, graphs, and diagrams. Strong knowledge of and contacts among illustrators and photographers. Proficiency in InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Dreamweaver.
