Capitol File Magazine is looking for a driven sales professional to join our high-performing Washington, DC team. The primary duties for this position include the following: •Builds and maintains ad revenue for publications by continually prospecting for new accounts, leads and sales opportunities on the phone and in person.•Manages account database, including prioritizing and organizing sales calls to maximize business. •Proactively communicates account and sales information to management and sales team, and produces weekly sales forecasts for the President/EIC. •Develops and articulates advertising strategy for the sales team when they require assistance with a complicated proposal or client. •Identifies advertising objectives and target markets for products or services.•Builds brand identity and raises awareness through meeting with affiliates and potential partners. Acts as bridge builder and relationship steward to develop rewarding relationships for Capitol File.•Cultivates and secures sponsorships for key annual events, including the White House Correspondents Dinner Afterparty.•Develops and solidifies the distribution strategy for the magazine in conjunction with the distribution team in the corporate office.•Confers with President/EIC to outline new policies or sales promotion campaigns.•Confers with outside advertising agencies and print, broadcast, and online media representatives to negotiate advertising contracts.•Act as magazine ambassador, servicing all existing active accounts by maintaining constant contact with clients to ensure that we are meeting and/or exceeding their expectations. This includes personal accounts, and accounts being worked by another member of the sales team. •Prepares sales presentations, budget recommendations, and creative ideas for prospects and current clients.•Supervises the sales team to ensure that short- and long-term goals are being met, and that ads are trafficked and produced following protocol to ensure that positioning requests were met.•Develops and maintains both local direct and agency accounts.•Work with clients and finance to ensure timely payment for all sold and/or assigned accounts.•Represents the company at client and company events to promote business. This includes magazine events and client events, many of which occur in the evenings.•Complete all forms and process paperwork for assigned accounts according to company specifications to ensure proper handling of accounts.•Sets agenda for and facilitates weekly sales meetings as needed. •Other duties as assigned.The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:•Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.•Minimum five years prior sales experience required; media sales/marketing experience a plus, but not required.•Prior experience with luxury brand products and clients preferred.•Candidate must have at least two years of management experience, preferably experience managing a sales team.•Must possess strong leadership skills and exhibit prowess as a multi-tasker; the top candidates will be highly motivated and goal oriented.•Candidate must be outgoing and able to connect with a diverse pool of clients spanning many different spheres, from fashion to décor to philanthropy to dining.•Knowledge of the local Washington, DC market and Capitol File’s competitors in the local market.•Familiarity with both Mac and PC platforms; proficiency in all Microsoft Office programs. Intimate knowledge of Power Point; candidate must possess the ability to quickly create PowerPoint presentations for sales pitches.•Ability to navigate sales system.•Reliable transportation to attend meetings, appointments and company functions is required.Successful candidates work well under pressure and thrive in a dynamic deadline driven, rapidly changing environment.
