Senior Editor, Scholastic Instructor and Administrator magazines

Instructor is the go-to guide for K-8 teachers, offering practical and innovative teaching ideas, education news, professional development advice, and teacher-tested lesson plans, classroom management strategies, and timesaving tools.

Administrator offers superintendents and IT directors news, trends, and case studies around a myriad of topics, including Common Core, technology, and leadership.

Scope of Responsibilities:

The senior editor will plan, assign, and edit components of Instructor and Administrator including articles and sections, as well as update the magazines¹ website and oversee social media for both titles.


Specific Responsibilities

-Assign articles to freelancers

-Update magazines¹ websites in Drupal, coordinate social media accounts on Twitter and Facebook, and oversee newsletters -Work with freelancer writers to revise and refine articles, communicate with them to answer questions and provide feedback.

-Collaborate on and revise layouts with designers, proof final layouts -Adhere to production schedule -Work within a budget and track editorial expenses -Travel to education trade shows

- Liaison with sales/marketing and PR firms to coordinate edit mentions and product reviews‹manage product samples/books

Specific Experience



- B.A. of B.S. required (degree in English or journalism preferred)

- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading abilities

- At least 5 years educational publishing or editorial experience required

- Ability to update webpages, manage Twitter and Facebook accounts

- Computer skills, Internet, and library research

- Teaching experience a plus
