Routledge Books is seeking a full-time Development Editor to join a dynamic, international team of eight Development Editors, who play a pivotal role in the success of some of the company’s most important textbook projects. They would be responsible for a range of tasks to ensure each project is delivered on time, to the highest standards, delivering the maximum value.

Responsibilities will include:

•Managing the process through which a textbook (and supporting Companion Website materials, where appropriate) travels from conception to publication (and beyond) and the inherent stages involved
•Performing excellent market research to ensure that every aspect of the project meets the needs of the market, using such tools as questionnaires, academic calling, online surveys and phone interviews
•Maintaining close ties with key stakeholders (including authors, Commissioning Editors, and customers) to ensure clear lines of communication and successful working relationships

Core responsibilities include:

Ensuring that the structure, organization and level of books are appropriate for the market through the academic review process; managing projects (including Companion Website materials) from pre-contract to post-publication; preparing manuscripts for handover to production editorial; monitoring schedules, delivery dates and publication dates.

Qualifications:

BA or equivalent educational experience with 18 months experience in publishing.

They will be able to demonstrate excellent time management skills, show good attention to detail, demonstrate the ability to communicate well with different parts of the business, will show good problem-solving skills, work well independently and in a team, and possess a positive attitude. A willingness to work with confidence, flexibility, and creativity will also be an advantage.
