The External Relations Department, which raises more than $60 million annually in private sector funds, an External Relations Project Manager to assure timely and quality outcomes for a range of core and initiative-based marketing, fundraising, and awareness building projects. This is a new position and we are looking for a seasoned professional to join an energetic, creative and integrated team.


The successful candidate will be a self-starter and goal-oriented, able to work across teams and with consultants capably and collaboratively, adept at solving complex problems, and have proven ability to successfully manage multiple projects that vary in complexity, size, and duration. As a member of the External Relations Department, the External Relations Project Manager will report directly to the Deputy Vice President of External Relations. S/he will work closely with the DVP to develop processes and systems to govern the production of a wide variety of donor and prospecting materials for direct mail, digital, marketing and advertising, and events. Working in a highly cross-functional environment, the External Relations Project Manager will interact with all levels of staff to capture project scope and goals, identify requirements and deliverables, create timetables, and manage deadlines: H/she will be the essential “first stop” in the life of a project. The successful candidate will require editorial and design experience—especially important in spearheading an interdepartmental review and approvals process—and benefit from a good sense of humor and strong interest in working as part of a vibrant team.


•Work with DVP and unit directors to develop initiative plans across engagements;
•Identify deliverables and teams responsible for them, and prioritize based on project scope goals;
•Target needs that may not be recognized and ensure approaches and solutions are linked to objectives and goals;


•B.A. or higher with 10+ years progressive work experience in publishing, advertising or marketing, or non-for-profit settings;
•Demonstrated success in project management;
•Innovative and strategic thinker, including a track record of complex and creative problem solving;
•Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize and multi-task;
•Exceptional editorial skills and eye for design;
•Knowledge of nonprofit fundraising environment strongly preferred;
•Excellent interpersonal and communications skills;
•Able to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team in a fast-paced environment;
•Passion for the IRC’s mission;
•Solid computer skills: MS Word, Excel, Base Camp or other project software tools, email and internet applications.
