Editor - Harlequin MIRA
Job Summary: We have an exciting opportunity for an Editor within the MIRA team. This position will report to the Executive Editor MIRA. Together with the Executive Editor, the successful candidate will be responsible for soliciting, acquiring, developing and retaining authors for the MIRA brand within the Single Title division, as well as supporting the management of the imprint. Key Accountabilities: Imprint Management: - Provide strong managerial and strategic support to the Executive Editor, Harlequin MIRA - Manage the Harlequin MIRA publishing schedule - Proactively recognize needs, opportunities and trends that will benefit the MIRA imprint - Manage the back cover copy files and report on the status of these files when required - Work closely with the Managing Editor to ensure timely and seamless delivery of book components - Regular liaison with the production department, marketing department, public relations; Direct-To-Consumer; Digital - Act as Harlequin MIRA ambassador at conferences Editing: - Manage and develop an author base that represents several genres and elicits the highest quality of writing - Ensure the ongoing and timely supply of high quality, saleable titles - Maintain positive relationships with literary agents - Manage the careers of a select group of authors within the Harlequin MIRA program - Acquire new authors for the Harlequin MIRA imprint - Perform editorial work on manuscripts including reading and evaluating proposals, providing revisions to authors; line editing; preparation of ancillary book matter including back cover copy - Collaborate with Creative Vision Team on product packaging - Other related tasks would include reading submissions; responding to author/agents/ monitoring payments to authors Qualifications Competencies/Skills: - Undergraduate degree in relevant field - 4-6 years progressive publishing experience - Demonstrated experience developing successful authors - Familiarity with the MIRA imprint - Strong communication, planning and organizational skills. Deadline oriented - Creativity/innovation, functional/technical knowledge - Capacity to build trust/teamwork/collaboration - Strong Negotiation skills - Experience with onscreen electronic editing - Social Media experience a definite asset - Drive for results and the ability to work under significant time constraints - Exceptional problem-solving, decision-making and prioritization skillsHarlequin will be interviewing qualified applicants from the United States and Canada. If the identified candidate lives in the United States their office will be in NYC. If the identified candidate lives in Canada their office will be in Don Mills, Ontario.
