Digital News ReporterSalary range: 35-40KDescription:Newsmax.com has an opening for Digital News Reporters to join our New York City newsroom and help dramatically grow our digital content offering. This is a high-volume, high-energy job and will be part of Newsmax’s The Wire news and rewrite desk. Candidates should have some newsroom experience (college media, internships and relevant part-time work will be considered). The ability to read, digest, recap and rewrite stories from all areas of the news (breaking news, politics, international, human interest, business, gossip, etc.) is required. Understanding of keywords and SEO is a plus, but the desire and ability to learn is a must. This position will be located in our Midtown office, overlooking Bryant Park.Job responsibilities:- Produce a high volume of featured news items daily for Newmax.com- Write headlines with an understanding of keywords and SEO- Find and add compelling and relevant information into stories and include proper attribution links as needed- Handle a number of tasks to optimize content for search engines- As needed, find and pitch stories for Newsmax.com and assist on Newsmax’s other digital propertiesBackground and skills:- Early career: Some newsroom experience (related college media, internships and part time work OK)- Solid news judgment and understanding of Newsmax’s online audience- Able to work very quickly under pressure and balance multiple tasks- Attention to accuracy, detail, AP style- Experience with Web publishing tools and basic understanding of SEO- Basic knowledge of HTML- Ability to produce clean copy that improves over time- Interest in learning and growing within a digital news environmentHow to land this Job?Applicants should submit a resume and cover letter to Ron Varrial, Managing Editor of The Wire, at firstname.lastname@example.org, as well as links to three representative examples of work.Include Cover letter with resume, NO calls please, No Agencies please.
