BBC America is seeking a creative and visionary journalist to assume the role of Managing Editor for BBCAmerica.com (and its associated digital/social manifestations) to develop, execute and manage a winning editorial proposition for the site. The ideal candidate will be deeply versed in BBC entertainment programming, a British and US pop culture aficionado, and an accomplished writer/journalist with a distinctive voice. A successful applicant will be motivated by the challenge of developing an entirely new editorial offering and will have the potential to become a ‘face’ of the network in some of our promotional efforts. BBC America digital products have lots of internal stakeholders – including program development, marketing, home entertainment, content sales and distribution, ad sales and communications – so candidates will benefit from having worked in big media organizations and will have the required temperament to manage a variety of personalities and interests. The role is being created to put a strong journalistic ethos to work to serve fans of British television and culture, and to enhance engagement with our brand and our content to generate affinity for BBCAmerica. Editorial Responsibilities-Develops a core editorial proposition for BBCAmerica Digital – primarily BBCAmerica.com, but also our presence on Facebook and other key social platforms. Defines and manage the overall editorial vision. Oversees all daily output for BBCAmerica Digital, including but not limited to: original text and video content, social media posts and conversation, and email newsletters. Hires and manages any required staff or freelance contributors, as well as vendors such as photo and video providers. Plans and oversee coverage of key events such as ComiCon, TCA, award shows, etc. Builds on the success of Anglophenia by mentoring the founding editor and ensuring that the output continues both to delight its growing legions of followers and to serve the broader needs of BBCAmerica digital.Administrative Responsibilities-Prioritizes initiatives and projects to ensure we most efficiently meet our goals. Manages the budget for BBCAmerica Digital. Hires/manages a small team of editors, digital producers, our designer, and technical resources. Interfaces with advertising sales to help ensure that revenue targets are met. Represents BBCAmerica Digital at internal meetings, as well as at conferences and trade shows and in the media (when called upon by our Communications team).REQUIREMENTS:The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree with 10 years experience with 5 years as a journalist covering entertainment. Experience managing a team is a must. Prior experience managing a budget is a plus. Familiarity with Wordpress would be very nice, as well as some facility with Omniture, Google Analytics, and ComScore. Thorough understanding of all digital platforms including the web, mobile and social and how users behave on each platform and always be up-to-date on emerging digital trends. Demonstrate an ability to discern insights from research and analytics, and the capacity to turn those insights into action.
