Position Details: 1 year contract position with benefits

Scholastic’s Classroom Magazine group is currently seeking an experienced Interactive Designer to develop original creative content for multimedia educational products. Our products provide multi-platform instructional resources for the K-12 student and teacher, and enrich the classroom learning experience.

In a collaborative team environment, the Designer will produce layouts and artwork in multiple formats for print and web workflows. Designer will also be responsible for photo research and tracking images in collaboration with Art Director and DigitalRights Manager - Photo Editor. Part of the daily routine will includeworking with still images, videos and motion graphics. Qualified individualwill be an organized, self-motivated creative thinker with a solid understanding of UX design and ability to execute compelling visuals for both web and print.

Key Responsibilities:

• Work closely with Art and Editorial team, and other creative professionals to design compelling multimedia assets for educational products

• Create electronic layouts and graphics to be used on web and print

• Assemble images, motion graphics, videos and text into consolidated multi media units

• Work closely with photo editor, art director and editor to research and choose compelling images that meet needs of our target audience

• Interpret web design direction and implement it on the project level

• Create and customize templates for electronic educational lessons

• Develop graphic assets for CMS based websites

• Assimilate design feedback to implement creative design solutions

• Ensure that images, layouts and digital media meet required standards

• Knowledge of best practices in designing for students and their teachers in order to assure that designs are appropriate for their audience

Qualifications/Requirements :

• Bachelor’s degree in art or design

• 2-5 years design experience

• Strong design background with a focus on editorial design and/or children’s publishing

• Creative thinker with portfolio exhibiting concept-driven work

• Advanced knowledge of Mac based design applications: CS 5.5 - Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Fireworks, and Dreamweaver

• Proficient with photo research and expertise in choosing quality images

• Experience with web design and content management systems (CMS)

• Solid understanding of UX design

• Self-starter with excellent inter-personal, organizational, verbal, and written skills

• Strong time-management skills and ability to multi-task in a deadline driven environment

• Knowledge of Adobe Acrobat Professional HTML, XHTML, CSS, HTML5 and JQuery

• Experience in education or children’s publishing

• Interest in educational trends surrounding reading and non-fiction

• Knowledge of After Effects and Flash a plus
