Position Details:1 year contract position with benefits

Scholastic's Classroom magazine group is currently seeking an Associate Art Director to develop content for multimedia classroom products for grades K-5.



Qualified candidate must have a sophisticated design sense, great attention to detail and expert ability to execute compelling visual solutions for both print and web. Individual should have a thorough knowledge of UX design and should be capable of working well in a collaborative work setting as well as independently.



Key Responsibilities:

Work closely with Interactive Art Director, Creative Director and Editorial team to design compelling multimedia educational resources for teachers and students in grades K-5
Research and choose compelling images for educational products that meet needs of target audience
Assist Art director in creating phototypes and graphics from specs, create storybroads and implement design solutions for both print and web
Interpret web design direction and implement it on the project level
Create and edit templates that could be customized for various educational lessons
In a collaborative environment, brainstorm interactive activities and develop CMS components
Ensure that images, layouts and digital media meet required standards
Assimilate design feedback, establish priorities and implement design-related revisions to CMS and print content
Assemble images, motion graphics, videos and text into consolidated multi- media units
Qualifications/Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in art or design
5 years experience in editorial art direction, with a strong background and interest in education for children
Creative thinker with portfolio exhibiting concept-driven work-Portfolio must accompany resume
Proficient in Mac based CS5.5 applications: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Fireworks, and Dreamweaver
Experience with photo research and expertise in choosing quality images
Experience with content management systems (CMS
Excellent inter-personal, organizational, verbal, and written skills
Knowledge of Adobe Flash, ActionScript (AS2, AS3) and After Effects
Strong time-management skills, self-motivated and able to multi-task in a deadline driven environment
Solid understanding of UX design
Knowledge of Adobe Acrobat Professional HTML5, HTML, XHTML, CSS, HTML5 and JQuery a Plus
