Basic Function:
The Web Managing Editor will collaborate with the director of interactive services and the director of public affairs to set the editorial direction of the Aspen Institute website. Across the site in its current iteration and upcoming redesign, several critical “landing pages” are used to promote the broad programmatic offerings of the Institute. The Web Managing Editor will create and maintain an editorial calendar to keep the content around the site, our blog and elsewhere.

The Web Managing Editor will manage and update content on these different destinations in several ways. These include:

1. Regular contact with Aspen Institute program staff
2. Weekly check-ins with web and public affairs staff
3. Participation in event planning calls/meetings
4. Attendance at Policy Program and All-Director meetings

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
?Manage content on homepage, multimedia page, featured content queues, featured event landing pages
*Work with community programs, public programs, and policy program contacts to manage content on location-specific landing pages
*Coordinate with public affairs on web special features which can include video, social media, and live event coverage
*Build and improve systems to collect information and act on web-worthy opportunities for and about the Aspen Institute
*Consult with policy programs on ways to use the Institute website and any other online properties more effectively
*Serve as a nerve center to better create and coordinate web content to reflect the ongoing efforts of the Institute and synchronizing with content from the bi-monthly newsletter, bi-annual magazine and blog
*Write blog posts and strategize with staff inside the Communications Department and around the Institute on blog content.

Principal Interactions:
Regular interaction with the Director of Interactive Services and the web team, the Director of Public Affairs, managing editor, multimedia producer, social media coordinator and the VP for Communications. Routine contact with Institute program staff and leadership.

Knowledge, Education and Experience
*BA or BS in journalism, public affairs or related field
*Minimum five years experience at a medium to large organization, preferably nonprofit or media
*Experience in writing for the web
*Superior writing and editing skills
*Tech savvy
*Strong visual, oral and interpersonal communication skills
*Knowledge of HTML, CSS, Drupal
*Project management expertise a plus
