The Director of Production oversees all production work for the music and celebrity sections of VH1. The position works very closely the Editorial Director and VH1 News, partnering on the rollout of daily content. The production arm of the team focuses on video, interactive elements and larger-scale franchises that appear on the site. A deep knowledge and enthusiastic embrace of pop culture is critical to success in this role.


Responsibilities Include:

•Oversee the Music and Celebrity sections/blogs from a production perspective
•Oversee a staff of 5 full time and freelance producers who create content on the celebrity and music sections of the site
•In conjunction with the EP and Head of Digital, produce content that reflects the distinct point of view and voice of VH1 Music and VH1 Celebrity, leveraging the unique qualities of the larger VH1 brand
•Manage the team that produces all VH1 Music programs such as Unplugged, Storytellers, and PopUp video, as well as music video premieres and digital presences for You Oughta Know and Top 20
•Work with the Music & Talent team to plan around events and visits from music talent -- brainstorm ideas, coordinate production and create rollout plans
•Work with external vendors and internal teams to produce franchises around mini-games, voting widgets and other interactive, embeddable elements on the blogs
•Innovate around emerging social and video technologies to produce new forms of interactive digital content (a la "Very VH1 with Kate Spencer")
•Manage all coordination with VH1 News around shared event coverage (festivals, red carpets, award shows, etc) to bring topical video content to our sites on a daily basis
•Work closely with VH1 social team to message out high priority content rollouts on our sites
•Work closely with the Ad Sales production team to package sales opportunities and execute around sold sponsor integrations
•Write blog posts as necessary (or desired) for the celebrity and music sites

Basic Requirements:

•At least 10 years in production, with a majority of that time in digital, preferably at a media company with a strong metrics driven approach to publishing
•Thorough understanding of SEO principles
•Experience with digital publishing systems and content management systems
•Firm grasp of mobile technologies and an understanding of how they will impact our digital content strategy going forward
•Facility with social platforms, preferably with a strong personal following on one or more of them
•Keen interest and thorough knowledge of music in "VH1 genres" -- current pop, hip hop, r&b, 90s nostalgia artists, as well as VH1 classic acts
•Keen interest and thorough knowledge of celebrity culture -- movies, tv, fashion, reality stars, and VH1 talent
