Editorial Events Assistant
AtlanticLIVE, the dedicated events and conference division of The Atlantic magazine, seeks a highly motivated, entrepreneurial individual to support AtlanticLIVE, and in particular Editor-in-Chief Steve Clemons, as an Editorial Events Assistant. This role provides a unique opportunity for broad yet high-level exposure to the business behind a media event production enterprise, with a great trajectory for earning increased responsibility. The Editorial Events Assistant will not only serve as the primary support for the division Editor-in-Chief but will also have the opportunity to contribute to: program and proposal editorial development; social media and editorial writing; event management/staffing; and business development and client outreach.Responsibilities Include:-Serve as primary support for AtlanticLIVE’s Editor-in-Chief, coordinating schedules, meetings, and travel arrangements and performing administrative tasks-Prepare Editor-in-Chief for public appearances at AtlanticLIVE and other events through detailed topical research and identification and assist in PR needs for events and for Editor-in-Chief-Interface with clients and contacts with an eye to business development opportunities, and carefully manage and update contact databases for speaker rosters, VIP attendance tracking, and marketing/sales lead management-Become obsessed with echo opportunities for AtlanticLIVE events and conversations through social media, blog posts, newsletter from the Editor-in-Chief, and other new and innovative content extension and amplification opportunities through digital and other platforms-Demonstrate strong digital editorial skills to edit and post Editor-in-Chief’s blog posts and write and post original pieces as well-Constantly innovate new program formats, topics, and participants to appeal to audience, client, and editorial goals and ambitions-Manage AtlanticLIVE branding events and opportunities Qualifications of the Ideal Candidate:-Broad knowledge of current events, policy issues, and national affairs, with working knowledge of key players in each-Journalism background and demonstrated strength in editorial writing and research skills-Outstanding organizational skills, excellent time management and judgment, and the ability to manage complex operations in a fast-paced environment-Comfort with ambiguity and ability to self-direct and proactively identify projects and opportunities-Confidentiality with sensitive material and communication-Proficiency with PowerPoint and Excel required; proficiency with InDesign and the ability to develop graphic presentations preferred-Fluency in social media and HTML-1+ years of experience in communications, journalism, or research-Bachelor’s degree and superior academic recordCore Attributes:-Atlantic Media recruits for two personal attributes in its candidates.
