Your tasks
The Business Development Manager will drive new business opportunities and take primary responsibility for selling tactical marketing and medical education products and services to the pharmaceutical industry. They will provide commercial and strategic input regarding clients and industry demand and build strong relationships with the pharmaceutical and corporate communities. This position will be based in either Yardley, PA or New York, NY.

1.Business development

?Target and open new sales opportunities for assigned products within the pharmaceutical industry, working towards achievement of specific sales targets
?Identify, develop, and manage new corporate sales accounts via attendance at major medical conferences, prospecting phone calls, and names gathered through own research initiatives
?Interact with client based BDMs to manage and increase sales of products and services through those accounts.
?Build relationships with pharmaceutical/corporate contacts through client meetings; identify marketing needs and strategies and develop solutions based upon the SHC portfolio of products
?Design and recommend new sales initiatives to widen customer base as well as develop new product ideas based on industry needs.
?Review appropriate page proofs of upcoming books/journals to identify leads for potential sales and follow-up with mailings, e-mails, faxes, etc.
?Lead all pitch opportunities for assigned products: Internally ? lead the preparation of all pitches; Externally ? be the point of contact for pitches and take overall responsibility
?Contribute to the profitability of Springer Healthcare Communications by working with Account Team to ensure all business closed is financial viable and Springer Healthcare?s profit margins are maintained
?Liaise with other SHC colleagues to promote SHC products and services, participating in joint pitches where required

2.Business planning

?Work with management team to develop strategic plan for assigned client and therapy area base
?Develop a current product and pipeline analysis on assigned client base and therapy areas
?Create own marketing material and recommend/develop new products/services to increase sales as well as to meet changing needs of the medical industry
?Keep abreast of developments and attitudes in the worldwide healthcare environment at industry, government and health service level; develop sources of information, particularly through contacts with relevant people
?Communicate effectively with Springer colleagues
?Any ad hoc duties assigned as required by your manager


Our requirements
?BA/BS degree preferred
?Minimum 3-5 years previous sales experience, preferably to the pharmaceutical industry, within an agency or publishing environment
?Ability to travel to pharmaceutical/healthcare clients
?Demonstrate high levels of motivation
?An understanding of the pharmaceutical industry and the drug development process
?Knowledge of the publishing industry
?Experience in updating databases
?Excellent writing, editing, and organizational skills
?Proficiency with word, PowerPoint and other Microsoft packages
?Ability to work in a team environment
?Excellent spoken and written communication skills
?Ability to work to deadline
