The Associated Press seeks a
Business Development Manager, focusing on Emerging and Mobile Markets for its New York City headquarters.

The Manager will concentrate on
developing and expanding the AP's content distribution footprint in new markets and uncovering new business opportunities in emerging markets.   Additionally, s/he will be responsible for proposing new strategic partnerships, introducing new business models and recommending new products/services.  The Manager will also work closely with the Director of Business Development to establish business partnerships with third party service providers who offer strategic opportunities for AP.
Primary responsibilities include
representing AP's business interests in emerging markets.  Specifically, the Manager is involved in building out relationships with companies producing applications for wireless devices; exploring opportunities for developing relationships with social media, content aggregators and any other digitally-based enterprises.   The Manager works closely with Editorial, Technology and Product Development groups to understand and gauge the opportunities afforded in emerging markets.  This position is also the lead business person in helping define AP's strategy in video distribution.
The Manager will be responsible for
incubating new opportunities, establishing the business relationship and oversee the implementation; thereafter the management of the business may be handed over to an account manager.  The Manager will manage and sell AP content to interactive TV carriers (Samsung, Sony and others) and to closed circuit TV services (such as services in corporate lobbies).  Furthermore, the Manager will be working with AP Broadcast to develop the business opportunities with cable operators, both in the ISP space and linear broadcasting.
Growing AP's revenue base in emerging markets through
licensing, strategic relationships and managing existing client base; Work closely with various AP departments to develop new
products and services;
Interact with AP Mobile News team to help monetize the
service through advertising campaigns and to increase traffic to the site
via third parties;
Will manage relationship with several major accounts; Manage existing business relationships with
organizations mining revenue opportunities in the wireless space,
including carriers, content packagers, smartphone and tablet applications
and others;
Provide periodic reports to management on foreseeable
opportunities in emerging markets.
Work closely with Director of Business Development to
identify new trends in emerging markets as well as digital strategies.

JOB REQUIREMENTS: The successful applicant has a deep understanding of digital media, including wireless media (smartphones and tablets).  The candidate needs to have a sense of business development, with the ability to negotiate complex deals and conduct professional presentations to C-level executives.  The individual must have a very solid sense of news media and be very sensitive to protecting intellectual property rights.
Specifically, ideal candidate will
3-to-5 years' experience in business development and/or
strategic relationships;
Proven success negotiating business deals Demonstrated experience in media Self-motivation with an entrepreneurial spirit Familiarity with digital technology, especially with
mobile devices
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written High ethical standards Strong commitment to customer service and sales MBA Preferred This position reports to the Director of Business Development, Digital and Commercial Markets.
